Policy core: China will fully implement a zero tariff policy on 100% taxable products in Africa from May 1, 2026. This is an important upgrade to the original zero tariff policy targeting 33 African least developed countries, benefiting 53 African countries with diplomatic relations.

Policy significance: This is a substantive unilateral opening-up measure taken by China to expand high-level opening-up to the outside world in the first year of the 15th Five Year Plan. Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that this move aims to promote the "addition" of trade through the "reduction" of tariffs, achieve the "multiplication" of people's livelihoods, and provide greater opportunities for Africa from China's large market.

Beneficial products and impacts: The policy will facilitate the entry of African specialty agricultural products such as Gambian cashews, Ethiopian coffee, and Kenyan avocados into the Chinese market. It is expected that the quantity of agricultural products imported by China from Africa will increase, and the average price may slightly decrease, while guiding more Chinese enterprises to invest in Africa and deepen economic and trade cooperation.
